This painting, Castelfranco Madonna, in person jumps out in 3D. It's 15th Century and the focus makes you wonder if a Camera Lucida was involved. It's one of only 3 authenticated Giorgione paintings. It's one of the few times a painting has stunned me. I literally could have just reached out and touched something made 5 centuries ago. Giorgione was dead at age 30 within a few years of this being painted. #Giorgione #highrenaissance #venetianschool

Lorenzo Lotto (1480-1556) 'Madonna and Child with Saints and an Angel' (detail). Lorenzo Lotto was an Italian painter, draughtsman and illustrator, traditionally placed in the Venetian school, though much of his career was spent in other North Italian cities. He painted mainly altarpieces, religious subjects and portraits. #lorenzolotto #venetianschool #venetianschoolofart #venetianschoolofpainters #angel

Tintoretto, The Miracle of the Slave, 1548. Tintoretto was a Venetian school painter of the High Italian Renaissance. Tintoretto spent his youth apprenticed to Titian's studio, where he learned to maintain the Venetian school's tradition of color and light. This painting, one of Tintoretto's most important, depicts an episode from the life of Saint Mark, the patron saint of Venice. Saint Mark is shown trying to defend a slave who is being accused of worshiping the relics of another Saint. Thus, the painting is a testament to the humility and selflessness of Saint Mark, and an emblem of Venetian pride. The painting combines Renaissance and Mannerist characteristics. Tintoretto, while usually recognized as a renaissance artist, shepherded Venice into the realm of the mannerist. The painting is crowded with figures, some of who are levitating, recalling the dramatic and monumental paintings of the Mannerist and Baroque eras. But at the same time, Tintoretto's figures have a likeness to those of Michelangelo, revealing that Tintoretto still kept Renaissance principles close to his heart. #Art #ArtHistory #Renaissance #Mannerism #VenetianSchool

In music history, the Roman School was a group of composers of predominantly church music, in Rome, during the 16th and 17th centuries, therefore spanning the late #Renaissance and early #Baroque eras.
The term also refers to the music they produced. Many of the composers had a direct connection to the Vatican and the papal chapel, though they worked at several churches; stylistically they are often contrasted with the #VenetianSchool of composers, a concurrent movement which was much more progressive.
By far the most famous composer of the #RomanSchool is Giovanni Pierluigi da #Palestrina, whose name has been associated for four hundred years with smooth, clear, polyphonic perfection. However, there were other composers working in Rome, and in a variety of styles and forms.

In music history, the Venetian School was the body and work of composers working in #Venice from about 1550 to around 1610. The Venetian polychoral compositions of the late sixteenth century were among the most famous musical events in #Europe, and their influence on musical practice in other countries was enormous. The innovations introduced by the Venetian school, along with the contemporary development of monody and opera in Florence, together define the end of the musical #Renaissance and the beginning of the musical #Baroque.

A few details from the NG’s new Bellotto, ex-Earl of Derby: super-detailed fortress in the distance, much looser and more liquid painting of passing peasants in the foreground.

The Venetian master painters, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Giorgione, Tiepolo, Bellini and others, saw in the light of the Venetian Lagoon a Lyrical and Colorful interplay of Color, light and shadow, and Atmospherics, and perfected the technique of “Sfumato”, or Smoky lighting in their works.
Our last vision while boarding our flight home of my beloved #venexia captured that effect at Dawn.

Happy Birthday, Francesco Guardi. #happybirthday #francescoguardi #arthistory #venetianschool

Tiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio (1488/1490 – 1576), known in English as Titian, was an Italian painter, the most important member of the 16th-century Venetian school. During his lifetime he was often called da Cadore, taken from the place of his birth.

Titian was one of the most versatile of Italian painters, equally adept with portraits, landscape backgrounds, and mythological and religious subjects. His painting methods, particularly in the application and use of colour, would exercise a profound influence not only on painters of the Italian Renaissance, but on future generations of Western art

His career was successful from the start, and he became sought after by patrons, initially from Venice and its possessions, then joined by the north Italian princes, and finally the Habsburgs and papacy.

During the course of his long life, Titian's artistic manner changed drastically, but he retained a lifelong interest in colour. Although his mature works may not contain the vivid, luminous tints of his early pieces, their loose brushwork and subtlety of tone are without precedent in the history of Western painting.
