Monsignor Guido Marini (born 31 January 1965), the Master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations since 1 October 2007 with Benedict XVI at St Peter's Square on September 28, 2014.
Guido Marini replaced Archbishop Piero Marini (no relation),a Bugnini disciple, and the architect of Paul VI's New Mass . Piero Marini introduced all kind of indigenous non Catholic elements in the papal liturgies under John Paul II. Later with the new Pope Benedict XVI, he chose the most atrocious vestments and mites befitting to clowns in a circus. Many Cardinals in the Curia at the time heavily complained.
Thankfully in 2007, he was replaced by the traditionally inclined Guido Marini who previously served as chief liturgist for the Archdiocese of Genova, in north Italy. Disciple of the great Cardinal Siri, Guido was called to Rome to restore splendor and dignity in the papal Ceremonies. All restorative efforts came to a complete halt with Francis' unfortunate election. Francis with his iconoclastic views and lack for sacred beauty and symbolism as expressed throughout the centuries by the Holy Spirit reserved the restorative process. Francis thew us back to the dreadful liturgical era of the 1970s where Paul VI literally desecrated the Roman Mass with his revolutionary innovations. With Francis now, Latin and Gregorian chants were eliminated once again from the papal liturgies and replaced by plain Italian and quasi Protestant hymns. The vestments became bland, uninspiring and ugly. All the mysticisn was evaporated. Note that Francis never chants during Mass. He only recites the prayers, a protestant practice. The list is endless. And it's painful.
We hope and fervently pray that the restoration of the papal liturgies to their original splendor will continue where it was left under a new Pope. At least now that Guido Marini is still around.
