I am monitoring this pair since June, suddenly on 11 th of August one bird was not seen few days ,so I was worried but soon , 2 nd bird was also missing...
Then I saw one neck above.Pond weed( jal kumhhi) and come to know that they are on nesting inside the water body.
Yesterday one bird was moving near nest and I guess that new babies must be coming out from nest soon as hatching need average 31 days incubation period.
Today's morning the day arrived when 2 beautiful young chicks come out from nest and parents were feeding them....
This is very tough time for chicks as prey birds like crow moving around but parents are alert and aggressive to save them. *In India Saurus cranes are considered Symbol of marital fidelity, believed to mate for life and pine the loss of their mates even to the point of starving death* *State bird of UTTAR PARADES. The main breeding season is during the rainy season, when the pair builds an enormous nest "island", a circular platform of reeds and grasses nearly two metres in diameter and high enough to stay above the shallow water surrounding it. Sarus crane numbers have declined greatly in the last century and it has been suggested that the current population is a tenth or less (perhaps 2.5%) of the numbers that existed in the 1850s. The stronghold of the species is in India, where it is traditionally revered and lives in agricultural lands in close proximity to humans.
