> http://lemde.fr/1Kkw3RO <

The videos of the shooting, the pictures of the dead bodies lying near the water and the experiences that the teenagers who survived the mass shooting shared, are just so horrific and terrible that I could cry. I can't imagine what the teenagers had to go trough. Some of them tried to 'play dead' and had to lay next to dead bodies and wait until someone would rescue them, some of them were shot and tried to hide with their injuries in the woods in order to survive, some of them tried to swim away from the island, some of them had to look this man in the eyes and begged for their life, and some of them were killed. I hate this so much. I hate it that people are dying every second while I'm safe at home and while I can enjoy life. Why are humans so cruel?

Torje Hanssen (14) from Svalbard. In July 2011 Torje set out, with his elder brother, to attend an AUF (Labour Youth) political camp on the island of Utoya in Tyrifjorden. 14 year old Torje was the youngest who attended the summer camp. On 22 July 2011 the camp was attacked by right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik. He murdered 69 people on the island. Torje, his brother Viljar and some other youths were hiding below 'the love path'. When his  older brother Viljar was shot, Torje started to swim, but because of the bullets he turned and dived. He was later rescued by a boat.

In Norway, the 22nd of July 2011 has etched itself into the collective and private memory forever. That day, a car bomb killed eight people and wreaked havoc in the government quarter of Oslo. While emergency services dealt with the fallout of the bomb, the man who had planted it made his way to the island of Utoya where the annual summer camp of the Workers Youth League (AUF), the then ruling Norwegian Labour Party's youth wing, was taking place. There, he killed 69 young people who had nowhere to run or hide. Around 500 survived the massacre. Many of them emerged severely scarred. More than half of the survivors were under the age of 18.

Cecilie Herlovsen, 17, from Sarpsborg, hid at the south end of the island with her best friend Andrine, who was killed. Cecilie was shot in her arm, shoulder and chin. The last bullet was stopped by her wisdom tooth. Her arm had to be amputated. #norway #utoya #hero #bravewoman

Hoy se cumplen cinco años de los terribles atentados de #Utoya y #Oslo. Nuestro homenaje y recuerdo a las víctimas.

"6 years ago, at #Utoya, girls and guys like you, like us, have lost their lives. We have spoken a lot, in the past six years, about this tragic fact. We have spoken about these comrades, about the risks of being involved in politics in a world where violence is rising and where we haven't been able to create a new framework which could have helped us defeating extremism and extremists.
We need a new way to think about our world. We need a new way to communicate to our families, to our friends, to our neighbors, to the people we meet in the streets of our towns and villages.
Six years ago girls and guys like us were killed for our ideas and our values. The same values that have led our conversations during the World Festival we just had in Albania.
6 years later the left worldwide is losing its ability to aggregate people working for these values, people able to think and work for a place which can be better for all, not for the few.
We all know that our ideas, our efforts, our meetings, are the only factors that can give back to our lives their deep meanings.
No matter what will happen, we will never give up working.
For them, for us. For all."

We will never forget

On this date 6 years ago Norway was hit by 2 terrorist attacks, both carried out by the same man.
First a bomb attack in the government quarter where 8 people were killed and numerous badly injured. The damage on buildings were enormous. Then he proceeded to the island of Utøya where he, camouflaged as a policeman, gained access to the island. There was a youth camp on the island, and the young people were his main target. There he shot and killed 69 children, teenagers and mostly young people before police forces were able to apprehend him. Many were injured for life by his shots as well. He searched the island and found most of the youngsters who were trying to escape from him. He had shot the guard as the first person. The island is small and does not have many places where you can hide. The youngsters were in panic and many tried to swim away from the island...

Six years ago an extreme right wing terrorist attacked the government and hundreds of kids at Utøya island, killing 77 persons. It's been 6 years since the July 22 attacks in Oslo - our home for 7 years. Last night I finally sat and wrote down a sense of my memories and thoughts of that day and its aftermath: full link in bio.
----------
I have only experienced real shock a couple of times in my life. The kind that can take your breath away, where it’s impossible to compehend how something truly awful could happen in our lifetime, while we watch. The morning after the attacks was one of those shocks.

With my cup of tea in hand I read the BBC website and I learned how bad it was – more than 60 teenagers had been shot in cold blood during the shooting spree, probably just one man was responsible and it took almost 2 hours for him to be stopped. And he was not a stranger, he was as Norwegian as they come, from one of the nicer parts of Oslo which we knew quite well. This was in the city we called home, where our two children might grow up.
