Maggot Casket - Maggot Casket
Death metal from Kentucky? Not something you hear about often. Beng that this was the debut album and it was self titled I figured I'd check it out.
The self titled first track "Maggot Casket" starts out with a sample of a poor quality documentary about maggots before buikding into brutal relentless beat down. The track is sickening. The guitars are overly distorted and gritty whilw the vocals do a disgusting job of worshipping all that is brutal. However, the track does a poor job of building up and feels "lacking" by the end. Not a good way to say "this is who we are". By the next track "Harvester of Marrow" the band does a good job of bringing out the Swedish melody that was hinted in te first track. There is more going on and this album begins progressive better.
Unfortunately the second track is the highlight. It doesn't build up much further.
The rest of the album offers the brutality of legends "Suffocation" but displays a poor job of expressing build ups and melody.
This feels more like a play album that a self titled and if this is the band saying "this is who we are" I dnt see them becoming legends. That being said, this is definitely worth a listen and even open ears for future releases. This release should have remained a debut full length it was too soon for a self titled album.
Another catchy riff is found in "Zombie Apocalypse' due to the black sabbath \ saint virus doom worship riff that alone makes the album worth buying.
Overall this album just did a poor job of building hyoe for future releases to me
