In the U.S about 97% of all farms are family owned operations. 88% of them are small local farms, however local connections come in small packages... 58 % of all direct farm sales to consumers come from small family farms. Big businesses of course matter too, for 64% of all veggie and dairy sales come from 3% of large farms.
Agriculture is a big deal, according to census and the usda agriculture and agriculture related jobs accounted for 21.0 million jobs, while direct farm jobs accounted for 2.6 million jobs. In 2015 the USDA concluded that 31% of jobs within the food and agriculture sectors had to do with meat and poultry while 11% were fruit and vegetables.
As you can see the agriculture industries are a staple to American economic growth, and without any job sector it could mess up a whole lot of financial growth.
Animal agriculture is one of the most IMPORTANT parts of the ag industry. Look around you, most of the things you own come from the livestock that farmers raise, such as... beer, perfume, footballs, blankets, makeup, glue, downy, condoms, nail polish, crayons, cake mixes, red candy, phonograph records, instrument strings, china, leather goods, glycerin, linoleum, pet food, gelatin, medicines, and even organs that we use for humans.
