The container exchange program at my local coop has saved me from using disposable containers whenever I forget to bring my own! Awhile ago I was talking to @wastelessbewild about this program and how in some states it's illegal to bring your own container. When there are policies/laws set in place that restrict individuals abilities to reduce their trash consumption, then the pressure to support a circular economy shouldn't be put on consumers but institutions. Often I hear from people that two things that get in their way of reducing their trash (especially Plastic) is 1. Stores refusing their containers because of state policies or 2. Stores not offering resources. For example they go to a store that sells BULK foods but they have to bring their own containers, which can be difficult to remember because our current culture supports a linear economy, time privilege, stress, etc. I hope to see more businesses, especially zero waste stores, implement exchange programs.
