About 6 months ago I went to NYC and of course visited my amazing hair stylist and friend @myatesnewyork. We deeply discussed entrepreneurship, personal identity and hair of course. At the time, I was struggling with wearing my natural hair out. Living in Atlanta there's sometimes pressure to look like the standard set of beauty and "blend in". I personally fought against my normal #unpolished look. The imperfect vintage clothes and big huge Afro that I love so much was hiding in my closet.
I've been natural for 15 years but had been mostly blowing it out for the last 3. Well, Matthew got me ALL the way together. He told me that "my tribe has to match my vibe" and to make sure there is NOBODY in my world that doesn't not only encourage, but demand that I'm being my most natural high self. Noted.
Not to mention, my always on-brand designer/homie/friend @taupeybeige told me around that same time that he missed my big, crazy hair. Noted.
It's back and I'm back. Thriving and challenging everyday-- but it's me, nonetheless.
