Ready for a night under the stars... just gotta find a place that is open! This spot will not be... #ArtofTheDeal 😂 #TrumpShutdown

Looking for planets outside our solar system, also known as exoplanets, just got a little more complicated. Scientists typically search for patterns like rings, arcs and spirals in disks of dust and gas around young stars because those patterns are often considered a sign that an unseen planet orbits a star. But this new simulation shows that planets aren’t the only explanation — the dust and gas in the disk can interact to make those patterns, too.

The light from the star strips the dust of electrons, which heats up the gas, which traps more dust, creating a cycle. Lumps of dust grow into spirals, rings and arcs. No planets necessary. Of course, planets could still be the cause, but the new study cautions against jumping to conclusions!

It seems paradoxical that standing on the summit of a mountain, looking down on everything before you, leaves you with the most humble feeling. After overcoming whatever treacherous obstacles present during the ascent, the awe that fills you when you reach the peak meets your adrenaline and subdues all other feelings. Your mind becomes filled with the peaceful present. While the thirst for adrenaline keeps me in pursuit of adventure, the experiences of living in these breathtaking moments are the true roots for my passion towards the outdoors. Some of the lessons I have learned through my experiences in the outdoors are greater than any classroom can provide, and I carry them with me in my pursuit for success in daily life. Arrogance will never carry you through a life or death situation. Every achievement should be held with modesty.

Glowing Twilight.

The sun set golden, and as night set in the sky turned purple and blue. But, suddenly, a couple of minutes after sunset, the sky turned beautiful orange. The dark side of the waxing crescent moon was lit by Earthglow - light reflected off the earth!

It was such a heavenly view...

Viewing the total solar eclipse last summer was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Starting the day with an early 1:30 am rise, my sister and I headed down towards the path of totality. We found ourselves setting up tent in a field encompassed by an abandoned race track, where we caught a few hours of rest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The two and a half minutes of totality were unlike anything we'd ever experienced. Just as we anticipated, everything went dark, the temperature plummeted, birds started chirping and dogs scrambled around anxiously. Jupiter and Mercury became visible from the naked eye. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sharing the moment with my sister, and the small group of people with us was what made the astronomical event so memorable. It was a time where people from all over the country came together to share stories, experiences, and even knowledge and tips on photography. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What were your favorite memories from last summer's solar eclipse?
