Let's talk about the job of a flight attendant. Because obviously, our job doesn't only involve traveling around the world and staying in nice hotels, but it includes also hard work, long shifts, constant jetlag and challenging customers. There are many prejudices about this profession, and I would like to talk about some of them from time to time (as far as my relatively new experience takes me, of course). The first thing my friends normally ask me is: "Why do you fly such long distances? Don't you start with short haul trips?" So the truth is, at Lufthansa we start flying ONLY long hauls after our initial training. After some months (in my case 5), we get a special training for short haul flights. The reason for this is simple: as a new flight attendant, you are much slower than your experienced colleagues, so you need to be on long flights to really have the time to get used to your new working environment and the procedures, and to develop some routine. After that, flying short trips, where the speed of service must be higher, becomes much easier. So for me, the "quiet" time flying only long distances will come to an end this months, as I will receive my training for short distance flights soon.... But I am excited to see more of Europe! And the good thing is that at Lufthansa, all crewmembers fly both: short and long haul!
