Incredible use of sonar for feeding. Have you ever seen a bottle nose dolphin drive its rostrum into the send floor to capture its prey after locating via e olocation?
I shot this footage via gopro while freediving.

Bottlenose dolphins track their prey through the expert use of echolocation. They can make up to 1,000 clicking noises per second. These sounds travel underwater until they encounter objects, then bounce back to their senders, revealing the location, size, and shape of their target.

Just goes to show how delicate ocean life really is and how vulnerable many species are to the actions of humanity. 💙
( and yes this turtle is a river species )

Achaeus japonicus is a small spider crab from the warm, colourful reefs of the western Pacific. They're really tiny, with a carapace only a couple centimetres (an inch) across. However, being a spider crab, they have long limbs to compensate and make absolutely sure they look a bit gawky.

Day 18/100
#100daysofbluesealife #the100dayproject
Greater Blue-ringed Octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata)
1. Shifting in shape and colour, the blue ring octopus is truly the chameleon of the sea. The beige grey skin becomes marked with bright blue rings when the octopus is threatened.
2. It has no skeleton and therefore is astonishingly compressible, it can squeeze through an opening no bigger than one of its eyeballs.
3. This octopus has 3 hearts pumping blue blood, food digestion occurs in the brain and it’s only the size of a golf ball but still carries enough poison to kill 26 humans in minutes! It’s the only octopus that is poisonous to humans, despite this it has only caused 3 recorded deaths worldwide because these beautiful creatures are very shy which is good news as their beaks are so strong that, they can penetrate through a wetsuit. .

📸➡️Lionfish(Pterois miles)are always beautiful😄
Fortunately in the Red Sea they are not an invasive species as in the Caribbean.
➡️The common lionfish grows up to 35 cm (14 in) in length. The dorsal fin has 13 long, strong spines and nine to 11 soft rays, and the anal fin has three long spines and six or seven soft rays. The dorsal fin appears feathery and the pectoral fins are wing-like with separate broad, smooth rays. These fish vary in colour from reddish to tan or grey and have numerous thin, dark, vertical bars on their heads and bodies.
➡️The common lionfish is mainly nocturnal and may hide in crevices during the daytime. It feeds on fish and small crustaceans. It has few predators, probably because of its venomous spines, but larger lionfish do prey on smaller ones. The bluespotted cornetfish(Fistularia commersonii) has been shown to feed on it, as also do groupers in the Bahamas.
