Growing up, I loved Wonder Woman. I recall watching the tv show every week and as the ending credits scrolled over the image of Lynda Carter's face, I would press my lips against the tv screen and kiss her. Sure, I loved other superheroes, but Wonder Woman was not only beautiful, but strong and able to kick ass.
And yes, it is true that I would sneak into my sister's room and put on her Wonder Woman underoos. I would run around the house, jumping off the couch, pretending I was her. Part of it was because I really liked her, but also because her underoos were also the most like a "costume" than any others I had - the top and bottom were just like her outfit, as opposed to a top that looked cool and some tighty whities with a character all over them.
Anyway, I'm so happy for the new Wonder Woman film. I have not seen it yet but it sounds like DC got it right. I truly hope it not only empowers young girls to be strong, but draws boys in to how cool and amazing a female superhero can be. That they can lead and not just be a side character. That they can be smart, powerful, and strong. Take your daughters - and your sons - to this film.
