Mountain Area Workforce Development Board met today on the campus of UNC Asheville at the Sherrill Center. Chancellor Dr. Mary Grant provided a welcome that described how the liberal arts is not inconsistent with meeting our region's workforce needs. Integrating the liberal arts with STEM helps provide the innovation local employers demand.
The Board heard presentations from Susan Reiser, Lecturer in New Media and Computer Science on Mechatronics and the STEAM Studio. UNC Asheville is the only location for a joint engineering degree in mechatronics with NC State University. This program has experienced a dramatic increase in enrollment and most of the graduates remain in NC. Mark Harvey, Professor of Psychology and Director of Undergraduate Research provided an update on how undergraduate research provides students with real world challenges that they must solve.
And Marlane Mowitz, Director of the Career Center and David Earnhardt, Employer Relations Coordinator spoke about how the university works with employers in the region to connect their students and graduates with work-based learning opportunities. #UNCAsheville #NCWorks #MountainAreaWorks #GreatJobsWNC #NowHiring
