This is hardly a self portrait, more like a work picture - if you like. Photography has always been my hobby, but during my career with United Nations (UN), from 2000 – 2015, I often had limited possibilities to take photographs myself. While working for the UN I had different security functions for various UN organisations around the world. Between 2002 and 2008, at the time working for UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), I was doing armed Close Protection for UN VIP’s, mainly in Bosnia, Georgia, Sierra Leone, Liberia and East-Timor (although also travelling with the VIP’s into nearby countries). The two pictures above was captured by a UN photographer (anonym), while the former UN Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Annan, visited Bosnia late 2002. At that time, I was doing close protection for the Special Representative of the Secretary General for the UN mission in Bosnia & Herzegovina, in other words I was bodyguard for the person in charge of the UN mission. However, during the Secretary Generals visit to Bosnia, I had the pleasure of being attached to Mr. Annan’s personal security detail.
If you wonder where in the pictures you find me (it’s supposed to be about me also… 😬), then look to the right side of the images behind Mr. Annan, where you will find yours truly clean shaved, baldheaded and obviously in a younger version and perhaps even a more handsome edition of Poul – some may add… 😅😁
