To me, the first step to improving is to accept. Accept the fact that you want to do something for yourself because you're sick of being in the same place. Accept the fact that it is gonna take a hell lot of effort and time for things to work out. Accept the fact that not everyday will go the way you expect it to be. Accept the fact that there will be periods where everything seems to fall apart and you have nothing else to hold on but yourself.
Whatever the situation, good or bad, try your best to accept it. When it is good, good for you. When it is bad, take it as an opportunity to grow and become a better version of yourself. Start accepting.
