#3 - 'Mystery Of The Bird Creature Terochilus'
This is everything a two parter should be. Neither parts feel better or worse as it keeps a tight focused narrative and it ties the grand-scale monster plot seamlessly into the human narrative, leading to a gripping and admittedly emotional climax.
The human plot is pretty damn powerful and psychological for a kids show, having a psychopath obsessesing over not being able to marry his childhood lover leading to him wanting to kill her, only to gradually realise his selfish ways and make up for them when they get caught up with Terochilus, showing some amazing chemistry and even has some great moments with Goh and Aki as she grows isolated with his brutal dedication to his job, only for him to shockingly slap her to make her realise her envy blinded her common senses that he's doing this to save Tokyo!
The plot with Terochilus is also really well done. The tension made when Terochilus starts to migrate into Tokyo is amazingly done, with a really clever plot device of his webbing being ignitable into carbon monoxide, leading to many plot turns. I love the scene where Goh discovers his nest on Evil Island and the intense first battle Jack has with him.
This episode just never drags on with a perfect balance between human drama and kaiju crisis, full of twists and turns that makes it absolutely electrifying. I recommend this two-parter to any tokusatsu fan. Easily one of the best written in the showa era!
