Our success depends largely on right personal connections and trusted partnerships. One of the best ways to get all of them to the top level is events and networking. Here are a couple of tips on how you can get the most out of any event:
1️⃣Practice: Identify your weaknesses and work on them. How to start a conversation? How to end one? How to stand and talk to give an impression of confidence? There are million of tips you can find online.
2️⃣Do your homework: Do a research about who might be on the event. This will help you to prepare the ground for making strong connections with people you want to get to your network. Check them through social media and search engine and you will definitely have some cards up in your sleeve.
3️⃣Define your goals: Yes, everybody aims to exchange information, resources etc. What are your specific goals? Define them a couple of days before and think of a strategy to achieve them.
4️⃣Bring business cards: But don’t be a card spammer. If you haven’t built enough connection with someone or feel that your contact is irrelevant, don’t offer one.
5️⃣Prepare an introduction about yourself: it should be short and memorable. Always ask yourself why people you talk to should care about what you are saying. And...
6️⃣Ask questions: The event is not about you, it is about mutually beneficial connections. Be curious and give your full attention. If the conversation is not relevant for you, well, just finish one… see #1
7️⃣Be a connector: If you are willing to share your contacts and resources, others will be more likely to help you as well. Sharing is caring!
8️⃣Prepare an action plan: write down important details and future action steps straight after.
9️⃣Follow up within 72 hours: give your follow up a strong personal touch.
1️⃣0️⃣Take pictures: send a short greeting with a selfie of you and the contact you want to stay connected with. Believe us, they will never forget you :) Take pictures only if the other person is comfortable with that, of course.
