I know I'm super late on this but I finished the first season1 Tales of Zestiria the X( an anime based of the game, Tales of Zestiria). Where do I even start on this one? The best way I can describe this anime if I'm going to be honest is both warranted and in warrented fan service. And not the lewd kind either. This anime uses the video game as a base. Nothing more. Nothing less. By that, I mean it has the same characters, setting, lore(for the most part) and same designs etc. In terms of how the plot unfolds, this more or less gives the game a middle finger and does it's own thing. And I mean A LOT. Like as soon as they got out of Sorey's hometown, this was practically a different plot with a few nods to the game's here and there. My "that's not how it happened!" radar went off the charts for better or worse. I know a lot of anime adaption of video games change things to fit into episodes and such, but this didn't seek like it was rushing the plot as much as it was just retelling the orginal story in a different way. Now the reason I say this anime is warranted and unwarranted fanservice is because of the context behind some of the changes. The most prevalent of the changes being how much screen time Alisha has. You see her in every episode for at LEAST 10 minutes total. I di wasn't a fan of how you almost forgot Sorey was the main character. You never should feel that with any plot. But at the same time, because of how much screen time she has, Alisha is actually a way more likable character in the anime. I liked Alisha in the game so I can't help but enjoy the development she got in the X. Now a change that I'm not crazy about is how It's setting up to where Sorry and co. finds a way to purify dragons. No. No. No. Fuck no. The ruins not 1, not 2, but THREE character arcs( Eizen, Zavied, and Edna). I'm so against that. Overall, I'd say it was a fun ride just for seeing Tales related content animated by Ufotable.(Which looks GREAT on Blu Ray) I'd give a 7/10.
