Sometimes I post the unflattering photos because frankly running/life/everything isn’t always flattering! Despite all the crazy at UCSB, Austin, Cristal and I blew the ash off my car and went to a race in SLO. Although it was a small field (25 50k starters), I was able to hang on for the win! I did something I’ve really never pulled off in an ultra. I had a really low-patch at Mile 20, but instead of falling apart and moping in the final miles, I put my head down and grandpa-shuffled as hard as I could. With 5 miles to go, I could look back and see second and third place chasing me down on the trail, but eventually the shuffle turned into a run, and I ran like a bat out of hell to the finish in first place. Props to @austin_j9 (for the photo as well) and Cristal (sans insta) for making a good day a great day, and taking care of me at the finish!
