🇵🇹 Lisbon Free / Traditional Shops
There are thousands of traditional shops in Lisbon, but only a handful have been there for over a century. Here is our top selection:
Hospital de Bonecas // This place has been in the same family for five generations, taking care of ‘patients’ of all sorts, from old porcelain dolls to modern talking-walking plush bears.
Conserveria de Lisboa // In this charming place you will find sardines, olives and other typical Portuguese delicacies in the most retro atmosphere possible.
Luvaria Ulisses // Lisboa might not be the coldest place in Europe, but these hand-made gloves have embraced the finest hands in Europe over the last century.
Manteigaria Silva // Maybe this is not widespread, but dried cod is a Portuguese institution. Visit this place to get to know more about them and other wonders such as Portuguese wine and sausages. Look for Mr José Martins, who has been working there for over 50 years!
Chapelaria Azevedo // Right in the heart of the city you can find artisanal hats and a few other accessories for a flair of old school elegance. The shop is divided in two, separated by a small house.
Pérola do Rossio // Looking for the right coffee, the perfect beans, and the most aromatic tea? This place has a lot to offer, and they take their business very seriously. It is common to spot the elderly leaving proudly this store with a bag in the hand and a smile on the face.
Livraria Bertrand // This is the oldest bookshop in activity in the world. Look for the vast selection of Portuguese writers and poets and get familiar with this pretty and rich Romance language.
Caza das Vellas Loreto // Since 1789 this place has been following the evolution in candle production. They do everything from scratch, in all shapes and sizes.
