Working on variations in the straddle pose. Upavistakonasana. Generally in a yoga pose we hold one pose than come out and move into a different pose, but once the fundamental pose has been mastered then one should start to explore multiple variations of the pose, this is also known as Vinyasa, or variations of the core pose where one explores multiple variations of the pose to open up different areas of the body. This was a main part of the teachings of Krischmachara (the father of modern yoga) in the early part of the 20th Centuary, but as yoga became formalised into its core styles the variations were dropped in favour of one pose at a time. Modern instagram yogis have brought back flow poses but generally they are done for its aesthetic look of its flow and not for the classical reason for opening the internal pathways of the body (Nadis), which is the true purpose of yoga asana, rather than the modern shape making which is done for external appeal only.
