These are amazing. On the days I don't do squats I do these lunges on the squat rack instead! I feel these better in the legs/glutes than I do on the Smith machine. Could be the fact that free weights mean you are lifting and also balancing which, in turn, hits different parts of your legs than a Smith machine.
LADIES DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE SQUAT RACK. I have heard this, straight from a personal trainers mouth, that squatting will give you a SQUARE butt. Which is FALSE. 🙅🙅 Make sure during your workouts you are hitting your legs/glutes from every angle for the best growth/shape. (Ex. Kick backs, lunges, push downs, wide stance, close stance)
Every body is different. Your progress may be slower than others and some workouts may work well for some people and not for others... but don't let that get you down! Keep pushing. ❤
