How are you? No, really. How are you?? Let's talk self care! But first, I think we need to address this 'art of slow living' movement. 'Slow living!' You've probably heard this phrase or seen it all over social media lately. It's definitely a buzzword these days, and as much as I love this concept, I feel at first glance, it can be VERY confusing, especially to mothers!
If you're a mommy to littles right now, I know your days are extra eventful and I'm right here with ya! We spend so much of our time and energy caring for our precious babes. Diapers, feedings, cleaning, cooking, dishes, laundry, ______ <---- (fill in the blank here). How is anything in motherhood 'slow?' To be efficient, we need to multi-task, right!? You can see how this movement of 'slow living' can be contradictory in motherhood! But, what if we replaced 'slow living' with 'mindful mothering.' Does that clarify things? Mindful mothering, meaning cultivating a wholesome, truth-filled, and valuable experience through motherhood!
A wise woman told me, "motherhood is kingdom work." Our days can often feel mundane (believe me, you're not alone!), but truth is, you're playing a VERY important role in the greater story. Your higher calling!
Let's not forget about YOU though, dear Mama! (This applies to everyone)! YOU need to be cared for too! So, if I may, I'd like to encourage you to start thinking of ideas of self care for yourself if you haven't done this already! Self care for your body, heart, and mind. So much of life is this mental game and we want to see you thrive just as much as we love to see your children thrive!
What are things YOU find relaxing, rejuvenating, fun? Some ideas are: sipping your fav coffee drink or cup of tea, getting a massage, or your hair done. Self care most certainly doesn't have to cost money, either! You could: go for a walk or run or bike or swim or do yoga. Other ideas are: write in a journal, watch t.v. while eating your fav snacks, photograph, or take a nap (YES, this really IS an option)! These are just a few ideas to help you get started on your list, because at the end of the week, I have a special invite for you!
Let me hear your ideas!!
