Many people have the totally misguided conception that body positivity means never exercising, or promoting obesity. NOPE. Body positivity is about love...period. Loving yourself no matter what size you are. Loving your body for just being a body that carries around your dope soul. Understanding that diet culture is real and that you don’t have to buy into it to be beautiful and worthy. I went to the gym today for the first time in years. It was also the first time I’ve been to the gym without visualizing some “skinny” version of myself to become motivated to push harder, to the point of making myself sick. I removed the restrictions and said to myself “I will work out to feel good, not to see how many calories I can burn.” And the whole experience was so different. I felt great. I worked out until I didn’t feel like working out anymore. That simple. I didn’t obsess over anything. It was chill & exactly what I needed. HEALTHY DOES NOT STRICTLY MEAN WORKING OUT FOR HOURS & EATING SALADS. Healthy looks different for everyone. It should be whatever makes you comfortable and whatever makes you feel good. We’re all different, and society despises that. Society wants to push one image on us so that we all buy products that supposedly make us look that way. But we are not meant to be the same. We are not meant to find beauty in only one set of features. We are meant to find it in the originality, the uniqueness, the quirkiness of the many different people and bodies on this planet. The world does not need more sameness & bleakness. What it needs is more love, and that starts with loving ourselves.
