From last week; a bit of work in the exercise saddle. Toad pulled a shoe a few days ago, so it's been light work until the farrier is out. He's in routine conditioning at the moment, so it's always amazing to see the fitness training pay off. #aqhatoad
Bringing this account back from the dust of early 2017. Hi, my name is Christen. I train horses, and would eventually like to become an exercise rider and jockey for the racetrack. My newest project; today was his first ride out of the arena and into the big field at anything faster than a walk. He handled it like a pro; cool, calm, and with ease. He's got a lot to work on, but considering we only had two 'baby' moments today, as opposed to the usual five or six, I'm extremely impressed. #ottbfreddie
After having three weeks off Logan blew me away tonight. Calm, cool, and collected while completely bareback and bridleless! 😍 I’ve been working at my new job, editing over 5,000 pictures from Otter Creek Dressage, and dealing with fraud on my debit card. 🙈 With all this going on, Logan had to take back seat. 😢 Wish he could understand it’s all for him. 😅 But tonight was amazing. We had a little walk and trot around the outdoor arena in just a neckrope. 🙌🏼 So thankful for this horse. ❤️
Probably the most awkward picture of Poika on my account, but I wanted to post it to show you all I rode Poika ENGLISH yesterday! And we JUMPED! 😱😝 Well kind of. I went over a couple jumps and then one of my friends from my barn who actually knows how to jump hopped on Poika and took him over some more jumps! It was really fun to see her riding him! 😁 Poika’s owner and the jumping trainer we have at my barn have always been convinced that he likes to jump so we finally tried it! If I decide to continue with it I’m going to get a different noseband attachment for his bridle that’s a little softer because I know this one he has is probably not comfortable with some sort of constant contact. But yeah! I’m glad I finally got to ride him English! 😆 And thank you @meg_han_walsh for riding him! 🙂
We ride to fly, feel, touch, breath, laugh, soar, overcome, relax, heal, love, to belong, to feel strong, to prove them wrong, to communicate without words, to be loved back. We ride to live.
So Kahana is back at Killarney now! really excited to be riding regularly again even if it is only short rides! - - So I thought I'd tell u guys what has been going on, I found a great horse that I was going to buy, he was actually supposed to come to killarney today but yesterday we got a text that the owner sold him. So that was pretty disappointing, especially since we had waited almost a month before he could come. I guess I'll just keep looking and try to find something so I can actually show this season - - -
SO proud of this girl. I was the only bidder on her at the Kamloops auction just 1 month ago after she was run in. She was tearing around the pen, drenched in sweat and just generally seemed terrified. I had zero idea of her history or what to expect but I had to have her. Today we loaded up and took her to her first gymkhana which I rode her in (my first ride on her to boot!) and she did great! There was tons of stuff going on and there were some silly moments but overall she trusted me and did everything I asked her to do. There were horses crashing around, tractors harrowing, birds all up in her grill and a quad ripping around which she kept her cool around. All the time I’ve spent bonding with her and working with her has really paid off. Best $400 I’ve ever spent ❤️ . . . #lot333#kamloopsauction#rescuehorse#paint#pinto#mare#rescue#horsesofinstagram#horse#gymkhana#fun#firstouting#trot#love#happy#lovemylife#best
Took a break from nesting today to hang out with the ponies, and give them some relief from the flies. My sweet little Haflinger filly Hazel was an absolute clever doll today!
No longer whinnying when I take her away from Sailor, she's realized hanging out with me is a pretty good deal. It's a good feeling when your pony actually wants to be with you.
She's really starting to pick up on body language cues and is very soft and sensitive. Little miss is no longer afraid of me patting her, and accepts the lead rope being thrown over her, and the whip touching her all over.
She's also started backing up with me just wiggling my finger as the cue. Smart cookie! 🌺💐🌸💕
