FWC biologists were on Lake George doing community electrofishing sampling and caught a bass that looked like a possible contender for TrophyCatch Florida. When they weighed her, they noticed a fish in her mouth. The bass was 22.6” and weighed 6.96 lbs. However, she was in the process of eating a 16 inch Chubsucker that weighed 1.34 lbs, 1/5th of her total body weight! If she’d have kept that fish down, she’d have weighed over 8 lbs and qualified for trophy catch, but the bass was released hungry. #trophycatch#electrofishing#research#freshwaterfish#largemouthbass#chubsucker#fwc#fwcresearch#fwri#florida

Taking Stock in Apopka 🐟🤓🙌 FWC biologists just stocked one million pure Florida largemouth bass in Lake Apopka! Pure Florida bass grow larger than their northern counterparts, and this special early stocking gave these fish a head start! The stocking is part of ongoing work to bolster the fishery in 30,000-acre Lake Apopka. The genetically pure Florida largemouth bass were spawned out of season at FWC’s Richloam Fish Hatchery, which is housed at the Florida Bass Conservation Center. #fwc#fisheries#fisheriesmanagement#biology#picoftheday#trophycatch#bass#bassfishing#freshwaterfishing#lakeapopka#lovefl
