This is Mark Skanes-Cady.
Mark is a handyman, on a pilgrimage to nowhere; just exploring the US.
Mark came in with Minnesota plates on, looking for an oil change. We did our best to accommodate him, get him back on the streets to complete his experience.
We sat down with Mark, asked him who he was, what he was doing, what he had to say... it's not every day that someone has ridden 1,000 miles and ended up at Mosites Motorsports.
This is what he had to say.
Mark is from Minneapolis, MN. He left his home last Friday and has been on the road every day since then.
Mark is headed to the Appalachian Mountains, to ride, experience, and get away.
His chariot is a 2013 Triumph Explorer 1200.
"[This is a] vacation from life."
When we asked him where he has had the best food so far on the trip, he said Ann Arbor, Michigan. "Risotto and some kind of fish."
He was born and raised in MN, with a big family behind and beside him.
Last year, Mark's husband of 30 years left this earth.
His name was Hugh.
Hugh was hit by a distracted driver.
The driver was traveling at 50 mph, texting, and hit a completely stopped Hugh.
Mark may be a handyman, but sometimes you can't fix everything.
His family and Hugh's family are meeting for a ceremony to honor and remember the life taken far too soon. Mark, living with this reality every day, has elected to experience and remember his legacy by taking a very long, much-needed motorcycle ride; nothing clears your head like a 5,000-mile ride.
Mark wants everyone to know that texting and driving are dangerous.
Mosites Motorsports and Mark encourage anyone who is driving to never text and drive and avoid all cases of distracted driving.
Keep your eyes on the road and save a life.
Ride Safe, Mark.
We know Hugh would be extremely proud of you. *Photographed from left to right is our parts manager Donnie and Mark himself.* #triumph #triumphtiger #donttextanddrive #putthephonedown #tiger #triumphexplorer #explorer #explorer1200 #triumphexplorer1200
