Quest for Trifecta: Completed
I didn't quite know what to expect this year while chasing my first #Spartan #trifecta, never had I set any fitness goals such as this. At times the running and training kicked my ass, and Palmerton Super beat me up more so mentally than physically. After each Spartan race I had to take a step back and review/revise the training plan for my next one.
I didn't quite know what to expect from Killington. I'd heard and read many horror stories, the Death March is well known. 13+ miles with climbs up 3 different peaks, plus a swim to top it off?! I also didn't know what to expect from myself. My longest running race was a single 10k before 2018. I'd never tried to run up a mountain before, in fact I rarely ever hiked. A trifecta meant distances of 8, or 12, plus miles. @dillon.lucier and I signed up for two Spartan mountain series races because let's make things a bit more challenging.
Completing the Killington Beast and greatly exceeding my expectations (finished under 5 hours!) was an awesome feeling. Although more difficult than Palmerton, I left feeling completely different after the Beast. I was very happy with how I ran Killington, tackled the Death March, and pushed it until the very end.
Having the medals and trifecta is great, it's a way to show people the achievement. The things that I've learned along this journey, the experience...thats what will stay for a long time.
2018 - Trifecta accomplished.
