I could show you pics of flooded roads, or crumpled buildings, or footage of wind and rain. But to me, this downed tree shows the power of Irma more than anything else. This tree stood alone in its own lot, standing about 40ft tall with a base about 6ft in diameter. I've driven by it almost every day for years. There would often be Haitians underneath it, playing dominos in the shade. The winds split this tree completely in half, totally shredded it, like someone placed dynamite inside its core. It's branches blocked 3 streets before it was cut back to allow passage. Miami is beyond lucky that we were spared the full brunt of the storm.
