I love looking back on things and pondering 🤔. This one was some while ago. I knew when my youngest now 17 was 5 I didn't want to miss out on her growing up. We have gone through Girl Scout years, to school lunches, me volunteering at theirs schools, to now #homeschooling #travelschooling and everything else in between. The point is were does the time go. The girls are all teenagers now. Soon we will be opening another chapter. My tip today: take time and enjoy your family you work so hard for. #familyfirst

Map my track.

Getting the kids to stop daily and #study on the road is always a learning experience! And I'm not talking about them, I'm talking about us. While #traveling try having them read something fun that is going to keep their attention… Also using daily life to do math, history, and science has REALLY made the difference. #School can be anywhere where the mind is #inspired- even here in our messy campervan😂 🙈#slowyourselfdown #teachthemyoung #travelschooling #lifeontheroad

⛅ Serial Kepahlawanan 😍
29 Juni 2017
mudik hari ke-5 📝 #Travelschooling #wonogiri

That day we couldn't decide...North or South...so I laid down on a bench in a beach hut, phone charging and map open on the table...relaxed. Just as Ethan was getting itchy feet a taxi pulled over in front of the cafe...north or south?
It was heading north and so were we 😉
2 taxis later and we were hitching a ride at a crossroads to a coastal village #sidikaouki We were given a ride about 15mins later by a couple from Belgium...
Sometimes it's better to just let go and follow the flow ✨

...and why not hitchhike in Morocco?
Getting around in Morocco is so practical. There are many completely affordable options to choose from. We didn't book a ticket once because it's the kind of country you can just decide to get up and go...you'll find your way between fancy buses, local buses, collective taxis, private taxi, hitchhiking and friends...pick your option or like us use it all 👌

Join us Wednesday, August 16th from 6:30 - 10:00 PM at Whole Foods on McEwen in Franklin, for our next mama only gathering. Come with questions, ideas, and resources. All are welcome. I hear from so many moms that they are nervous to come if they don't know anyone. It makes our journey so much easier when we have a village. None of us have this perfected. Hope to see you there. ❤️

Today was our last full day in England and so we went for one final journey. It lead us to a little park with a garden. The kids were having a wonderful time exploring when they discovered a dark, hidden tunnel in the overgrowth that lead to a secret door! Do you see the pure joy in my boy's face? He loves to solve a mystery!

Ramadan breakfast in the desert
.
.
We spent almost all of the Ramadan month in Morocco.
Some days I fasted with them...but wether I am or not, we usually break fast together at sun down because Moroccan's have a massive sense of hospitality and sharing food comes naturally 🙏✨
I mean seriously, I've even seen them cook for others during the day even though they are fasting because they want to make sure visitors are well fed. That goes beyond any hospitality, care and thoughtfulness I've ever experienced. .

During our desert road trip we stopped to chat with this nomadic family. They live in the desert...harsh conditions.
They've told me it doesn't rain much anymore in the desert and so life there has become increasingly challenging.
I sat down with this mother of two and without words we communicated about our children, family and henna...😊
My scarf had come undone so I asked her to put it up like hers.
Simple moments with little words. .

Did I tell you about our desert life? We stayed at what the Moroccan's call "The entrance of the Sahara".
Right behind the house was the start of the Sahara desert. A beautiful stillness and silence...
Ramadan started the day we arrived, so everyone needed time to adjust to not eating during the day which means super long days of sleeping and heat...
Commodities are basic...we had running water but salty and gets very hot during the day so you need to fill up the buck and then wait that it cools down. We'd also wait that the sun was a little lower and get water from the well which was still salty but cooler.
The village is 14km away...
Cooling yourself down meant taking your biggest cotton scarf soaking it with water and laying it on your whole body.
It really works 👌Did I tell you we're at the entrance of the Sahara desert?

Try it. It really works 👌
Even though I didn't fast during this Ramadan, the setting was naturally making me fast from many luxuries we take for granted like fresh water, food at walking distance, a fresh house...
I'm super impressed with E. He didn't complained once...on occasions he'll sit up and say "I just really wonder what we're doing here"...😆

We have decided to try and eat healthier, since going vegan is not an option for us we stick to a plant based diet, daily use some dairy like butter and parmigiano/pecorino and have meat/fish/eggs once a week.
Considering that sometimes we would have all the 4 proteins in one meal this is a big change!! One of the perks of living in Italy is that you can always find healthy&amazing products just around the corner!
This butter is called "Botiro di Primiero di malga", in dialect "botiro" means butter, it's made from the cream that naturally rises on raw milk in the 24h after it's milked.
The cows roam free, only eat grass and flowers in stunning mountain pastures in the Lagorai mountains in Trentino, and the butter is only produced between the months of june and september.
The smell when I opened it was overwealming and the taste was truly exceptional!
I'm going to buy a big stock and eventually try and make it myself as I highly doubt I'll ever be able to eat regular butter again...

Packing for our way back home! How is it that we seem to be leaving with more then we came with, yet I don't remember buying much lol
Today we rest before the long journey home.
We've enjoyed our time here in England so much, but I think we're eager to return home after 2 months of being away.
Back to the people we miss, back to the familiar.
What an incredible experience it has been for our children to live in another country; to eat different food, listen to different accents, and hear new words and terms. The history here is so thick and deep.
I'm so grateful for this awesome opportunity.
I do find though that travel always makes me appreciate home more.
There are things that I really used to take for granted back home, that after this adventure, I will look at with a lot more respect.

Every morning we get up and we go buying fresh croissants, pain au chocolat and pain au raisins for breakfast. 🌄
Am I always as happy as I write here? Of course not. But I consciouslly choose to be happy 😉 I choose to find, feel and photograph all the good that is around and inside me. I choose to feel great daily. I focus on the good things. I choose to have fun. We have the power to choose how we feel! 👊🎆🐴🐸🔥
