🎶 Let's go, YANKEES! ⚾️🎶 We booked ourselves a couple of tickets to catch a baseball game on our first night in New York (It cost about $45 dollars each, which is a mid range price - there were some going for $15). What an amazing intro to NYC culture it was! Apparently New York is one of the only states where baseball still reigns supreme over other American sports (like Basketball and American Football). We loved people watching even more than watching the game! 😆 New Yorkers old and young, black and white, male and female were all there. Baseball caps with the iconic "NY" symbol could be seen on almost every head, and for the first time we were in the one place in the world where those famous caps actually belonged. We thought we'd get involved and bought a couple for $25 dollars each (although you can buy unofficial ones outside the stadium for 10 bucks). Expect food and drink inside the stadium to be PRICEY. $12.50 for a beer. $9 for a hot dog and about the same for 3 sliders. But hey, when in New York, right!? We Brits are used to sport events being all about the sports, but in the US it's definitely about the whole experience, drinks, food, commercial breaks and music all included! The Jazz organs played "just like the movies", in fact were pleasantly surprised to see that New York is consistently living up to being "just like the movies", and much more. If you've ever dreamed of visiting NYC from seeing so much of it on TV and the silver screen, you will not be disappointed. More posts of our Yankee adventures coming up!
