Destination: Hualien 70km
After an evening of nutritious eats, hot spring soaks, and quality rest, we attacked the short day with renewed vigor. A light rolling ride through a wide mountain channel, the roads were smooth, wide, and generally quiet. Kept good pace from our 6am start and made it into town shortly after 10am, long before check-in :/
They did take our bags and let us change quickly. Pumped the tires and hopped on our light and unloaded steeds for a rip around the new city.
Hualien is known for pastries, mochi, and cakes, so we indulged, tasting and trying the wares across downtown. Browsed a couple markets and cafes. In Toronto I wouldn't think of leaving a bike locked with pannier or frame bags, but here theft is hardly a concept. Nice road bikes are locked around the city with cheap cables, a fixie lay on a closed shopfront unlocked. The day was full of amazing eats and good wandering, didn't even feel like a riding day. Of course we really start to nail the A<🚲>B just days from our trip's end.
