I love a longer layover if it means a cheating peak at a new country, so I was excited for my two hours in Cyprus. I figured I had just enough time for a sea side lunch. I took a taxi to maximize my time. Unfortunately, the restaurant I picked, which was at the end of a dirt road off of the airport highway, was closed for the holidays! Stranded, I began to walk, luggage in hand, back to the airport. I was picked up by kind strangers who ferried me to the airport, only to realize that I had dropped a very vital piece of luggage, the one carrying my passport and money, somewhere near the restaurant. So, back in a cab I went. Luckily it was still there. I may not have had the best trip to Cyprus, but it earned a memorable title: country #50.
