In order to not cheat today I made two keto "treats". 3 ingredient peanut butter cookies (peanut butter, egg, sugar free sweetner) and a fat bomb (cream cheese, peanut butter, coconut oil, sf chocolate chips melted with coconut oil drizzled on top then rolled in unsweetened coconut flakes.

No, this is NOT a transformation post because in both of these pictures I was the same person with the same mindset, but that mindset manifested itself differently externally in each image. These pictures are from about 8 years ago & there’s about a 30 lb difference between the two.

In the first image, I was 19yo and, while you may not be able to tell, was very unhealthy. I was going through some family issues & eating made me happy and feel better, if only momentarily. I would go to McDonald’s and order about 5 things for myself and eat them in my bed, then follow it up with making an Oreo milkshake each night. You also couldn’t pay me enough to exercise.

In the second, I’m about 20 yo and weigh 30 lbs less, a weight that is not sustainable for my frame. I took a nutrition course where I learned about calories and macronutrients, and took that information to the extreme in order to lose weight. The thinner I got, the more compliments I received and the happier I *thought* I was with my body, so I figured “why not?” and kept losing more weight. Some days I’d exercise for 2 hours and eat 700 calories where my “lunch” would consist of a Diet Coke and 100 calorie bag of Soy Crisps.

In both images, I was unhappy with myself. In both images, I thought my self worth was defined my appearance. In both images, I used food as a tool for control. To control my emotions and to feel control over things I couldn’t control that were happening.

I wouldn’t change that journey because it taught me that, unlike what everyone would like you to think, my happiness and my health (mental and physical) has nothing to do with my weight or appearance and everything to do with my mindset and how happy I am with myself on the inside. Once I started to make shifts toward a healthier relationship with myself, my body naturally took suit and found its happy place too.

My mind & body’s happy place WILL be different from yours because we’re all unique. The important thing is that we each find that for ourselves & stop listening to what society tells us that should be. A specific physique or weight will never bring happiness until you can find a healthy & happy balance for yourself.

Am I cutting or am I bulking?

Tbh it’s complicated. Some days I’m eating an excess of calories, other days I’m in a deficit. I’m not really on a set program so training has been inconsistent. However, I have made improvements in strength and I’m noticing a drop in BF %. I believe this to be attributed to the hypertrophy, FST-7 principle style of training I’ve been doing over the last few weeks. I haven’t been going too hard or attempting max overload (PR). During the start of Summer I injured my shoulder/trap. Been taking it easy ever since, doing a lot of stretching and rehabbing the area. I feel better, I’m ready to get back into a routine. Ready to start tracking my macros. Ready to challenge myself.
