Just finished up the latest session I've had in a while, was also my second trip to the gym today because some days you just need a double dose of therapy to make it through... today I met a man in the gym who is at an extremely rough point in his life. A point at which most people would probably throw in the towel and just give up. But he had an extremely optimistic view on his situation that really inspired me to think. Think about the things that I complain about, the excuses that I make, the people I'll blame, and above all, the things I take for granted every single day. He explained to me his belief that life is not short but uncertain and it is that uncertainty that makes time so precious and so valuable. So I challenge you tonight or throughout the day tomorrow, whenever you see this, to give serious thought to those things in your life and consider changing how you view your life, in a positive way ✌🏼

Every now and then you truly do need to treat yo self, and what better excuse than having a few old buddies come into town and spend the weekend with you? 🤙🏼 Did I eat 1200 calories more than I was supposed to yesterday? Yep.
Did I skip out on lifting to play basketball with them all morning? Well duh.
Is my typical rice and steak going to be a little hard to eat on Monday? Absolutely.
Do I honestly give a shit? Hell no.
Our lives can get caught up in the day to day grind because we put so much effort into it for weeks on weeks on weeks, and don't want to lose it by getting off track for even just a weekend. But don't be afraid to lay that down for a moment and live your life with the people who truly make it what it is ✌🏼

Today was a humble reminder of just how much failure can come smack you in the face. The first 30 minutes of my workout seemed, in my mind, absolutely pathetic. I dropped 335 twice deadlifting then moved on to leg press and dropped 510 on myself on just the 2nd set, and everything in me said "it's not your day, you're weak today, just try again tomorrow" ...a year ago I would've walked right out of the gym and had a shitty rest of the day but today I got over that and finished what I started. Training is as much mental as it is physical and some days you get just as much of a workout for both

Chest day #2 of the week. Wanted to hit every angle on the pecs today to ensure a good all around session and I really liked what I did. Had several new exercises shown to me today (*) and absolutely fell in love with dropping angles on the smith machine. I'll make a video of it next week...but basically using a changeable bench, start with an incline position and drop the angle after every two sets until you're flat. I could literally feel my chest tightening from the top down so I hit decline to finish and the pump was 🔥 Was short on time so had to hit arms quickly afterwards, still generated a nice burn and pump there as well 💪🏼

Form is the first and biggest key to successful training if you want results. This was my FIFTH set of heavy curls so I very easily could've said "screw form I want to throw this up as many times as possible", or increased the weight to something I wouldn't have truly been able to handle, causing me to use my whole body to put momentum into the movement and take 80% of the lift away from my biceps... That's called lifting with your ego, and ego is something you leave at the door every time you walk in the gym. It's not how MUCH you lift it's how WELL you lift it. •

I've worked and lifted at my gym for 2 years now and I see people come in all the time and just start throwing up whatever weight for whatever number of reps and think they look badass for tossing it around, get those beginner gains and think they know what they're doing, then get ZERO progress and sometimes injuries after that due to crappy form. It's taken me 2 years to get my fundamentals sound, but I'm still learning every day. You know how I learn every day? Because I set my ego and pride aside countless times a day and ask for help, advice, or to make sure I'm doing something right. I don't pretend I know it all because I've just scratched the surface of this lifestyle and all it entails. •

SO bottom line: leave the ego at the door, push your pride to the side, ASK QUESTIONS and continuously learn. I promise it'll help ✌🏼 •

Y'all I got something to say but if you don't want to take the time to read just enjoy the video of today's back/shoulder session... I've noticed lately several posts complaining about people judging them for their body or feeling singled out by society for doing certain things or not being a certain way..... SCREW that. Sometimes women get idiotic and insensitive comments about them for posting something expressing how proud they are of what they've accomplished or even the simple decision to make a positive change in their life. Men get comments being called "gross" "nasty" "too big" when they've spent years crafting their body into a vision they had. Or someone just getting started and getting comments like "why would you show your body it's so fat" "you have too little muscle to try and flex on social media" "do you even have muscles" etc etc etc BLAH BLAH BLAH. The same bullshit flows both for guys and girls, but the real problem comes when you're going to take it personally and/or not cut out those negative people. People are going to hate and be disrespectful no matter what you do or what stage of your fitness you're in, and it's totally up to you to not give a shit and be PROUD of any progress or decisions you've made towards bettering yourself. Not only in fitness but every single aspect of your life. You craft your own reality so when that shit happens push it away and move on, it's not being weak or letting yourself get ran over its being the better individual. If you can't simply push it away use it as fuel to light your soul on fire and go further than you ever thought possible. Got some news we all know but some don't want to accept: the world isn't going to get easier. That's why you have to get stronger. You, me, and everyone can do it. Block out the haters, keep doing your thing, and be your own person. Rant over.✌🏼

If you ain't drippin WORK HARDER 💪 (@joeyswoll taught me that) Had a rough start to the day and couldn't for the life of me find the drive to get dressed and go to the gym, but these are the kind of days it counts the most. After dragging my ass through the gym doors I had one of the best sessions I've had in a while. After my blood got flowing and my muscles felt the work I was about to put them through I was lit up inside with a fire that reminded me why I love doing this so much. So if today hasn't been going your way take this as a little inspiration to get up, dress up, show up, and never give up!
