@jrluisoscar hitting a strong clean double at #345. For advanced trainees who are "fast adapters" I find intensity one of the most important factors to monitor in their progression. Too much intensity leads to Overtraining ... not enough intensity leaves the athlete under prepared. The balance is found in understanding the cost of each training session.
Strength / power work can't be high intensity all week, what days are your highs and what days are your lows?
Energy system work can't be LA Threshold every day... how are you spacing high intensity EST with your tempo and recovery MAP 10 work?? I'm going to keep it simple with this post... Is cardio necessary for fat loss? The short answer: No! You can burn fat very efficiently without cardio as long as you have an adequate diet. But, you have to understand that just because it's not NECESSARY, that doesn't mean you SHOULDN'T do cardio. Cardio can be a great tool when it comes to fat loss, and while not necessary, it does a great job at burning off extra calories. And burning more calories will allow you to achieve that deficit you need to burn fat. And sometimes, it's better do burn those extra calories with some cardio instead of reducing your overall intake of food. Because, who likes to eat less! One thing thats important to note is that doing too much cardio can actually be detrimental to your long term goals. It's meant to be one tool to aid fat loss, so don't spend it all right away. John Henry and I go way back as he was on the Junior High Cross team when I was a Senior at our Alma Mater in Central, NY.
I watched his entire running career and just recently got the pleasure to begin coaching him to get him back into prime shape. It's a great feeling helping out blasts from the past and big things lie ahead for this dude. Congrats, buddy! It's just the beginning of some solid racing down the road.
