This was not just another #beachday . After trying on crazy heavy Spanish armour from the days of Hernando de Soto, what else could we do but wander the #nature #trails of #DeSoto #NPS and experience the untouched #beaches the Spanish landed on in the 16th century... Of course there were mangroves to get through but beyond the maze of roots and branches was the most #beautiful bay which, I'm sure, was the actual reason the Spanish set up camp here at #Point De Soto.
De Soto National Memorial is a very small site but it's pretty cool. While the exhibit information does give a very euro-centric account of the Spanish conquests in the Americas, the basic story is put into context and the living history aspect of the park is unusual. If you're on a #Florida #GulfCoast #roadtrip , plan a stop here for some #history and time by the #sea .
