Handmade stamps in honor of one my most beloved trees from back home — the Monterey Cypress. Native to the central California coast, they can be seen dotting the beaches or jutting from the rocky cliffs of Big Sur♡ — gnarled branches and dramatic silhouettes shaped by the coastal winds. I LOVE them so!
This clay is actually a white-ish clay after firing, so the white slip I've painted on will give it some dimension and subtle texture. Close-up detail, 2/2 photo.
P.S. In Japan, most have assumed it's a bonsai (any variety of tree/shrub cultivated and pruned to stay tiny), like how most here have assumed my mountains are of Mt. Fuji. Such an interesting reminder of the differences in contextual and cultural mindsets.
