On the left is the biggest I've ever been. My friends insisted they couldn't tell a difference in how I looked but I felt awful and none of my clothes fit. There's an 18lb diff in these photos. While I know I didn't look "bad" by most people's standards, I didn't feel like myself and was really unhappy. When I'm taking better care of myself my body naturally starts looking more like the pic on the right. I'm glad I have these unedited pics because it shows me reality, and doesn't leave things up to my memory, it actually visually represents the difference.

Do you go to the gym with a plan, or do you just "wing it"? ⠀

There have been times that I've YOLO'd a lifting session only to feel disappointed with the amount of weight I was able to lift. I felt down on myself because I thought I should be "stronger". Luckily I had been documenting my sets and reps for a few months before. Because looking back at the lifts I'd recorded in the months prior, it turned out that I had never done that many reps at that weight before. I pretty much attempted to PR at random without any peaking or anything else to prepare. No wonder the lift didn't go well! ⠀

Planning your workouts ahead of time and documenting what you've done is really important if you want to improve your fitness. Doing this, you are able to see how far you've come, know where you're headed next, and troubleshoot any issues you may be currently having. ⠀

Frustrated after today's workout as it felt like I just struggled with my equipment for an hour.

But because we track our workouts throughout, I was able to look back and realize that I used over a dozen pieces of equipment for 3 sets of 2 dozen exercises.

And honestly, my muscles were just worn out.

To me that's a good thing. It means that I pushed as hard as I could, even as I struggled.

Don't let the tools you use to reach your goals be a source of frustration. Like a lot of distractions in life, it's just stuff.

Push your limits, past your frustration.

For those of you who know me it’s no secret that I know my way around the gym, but it wasn’t always like that. It took time to figure out the equipment and learn what exercises work which body parts and the truth is I still don’t know it all! I work with an amazing trainer @aaron.hairston and I still have to google a lot of the exercises he gives me because they are new to me lol! So my point is if you’re avoiding the gym because you’re not sure what to do the internet is an amazing resource!!There are lots of websites that provide free workouts and even show you how to correctly do an exercise. So don’t let inexperience or a lack of knowledge keep you from transforming your body and your confidence in the gym.
