My absolute favorite thing to do while traveling is going to local markets and buying all the fresh produce and novelty items I can afford. My husband laughs that we’ve been to all the markets abroad but rarely any sights (not true 🙄 ok, somewhat true). But seriously, every market is a little different and worth visiting IMO. Terroir abounds everywhere and there’s just so much to learn and smell and taste. I also love asking questions, even if I don’t really understand the answer, because there’s nothing like having a moment of shared enthusiasm with a local vendor over their product. This photo is from Ho Chi Minh, #Vietnam, in maybe the 5th market we trekked into. These #eggs were just so small and perfect in a big stand of all types of eggs. I picked them up shyly for a photo and they were still warm 🤯 the lady selling them was quite amused at my surprise and marvel.
This is a big lead up to say...I am really, really excited to announce I’m heading south to #Nicaragua’s beautiful @JicaroIsland Eco Lodge for my very first international #VR and culinary artist grant. I’ll be there for 2 weeks, visiting various farms, purveyors, fishermen and taking 360 video footage of their process, then creating a 3 course food + cocktail menu paired with 360 videos showing the progression of harvesting at the farm / fishing on the lake to cooking in the kitchen to final presentation at the table. The wonderful @ParkMSarah is coming as our video expert along with my mixologist husband for ah-mazing drinks. Follow along my Instagram stories for a play-by-play of all the craziness happening in the lush tropics of Granada. Can’t wait to share the final product with everyone!
