One of the many great things about having #icthyology students around, is getting a chance to ID some of our random beach finds... like this spotted eagle ray. According to the #iucnredlist they are near threatened, and have many human threats, including fishing for the aquarium trade.
Taking 4-6 years to reach maturity, and with a gestation period of a year, these beautiful creatures are slow to reproduce.
This individual was seen washed up at the end of the 2016 turtle nesting season.

Nearly all species of sea turtles are endangered, but Tortuguero, a small island on the eastern coast of Costa Rica, offers a safe place for nesting green and leatherback sea turtles. It launched in 1959 as the world’s first turtle conservancy, and continues to be one of the world’s most important breeding grounds for these turtles. GBS producers @shereshe and @maycorsini took a trip to Tortuguero to watch the next generation hit the waves. Check out the link in our bio to follow their entire journey! 🐢

Mm puedo decir que es la primera que me gusta de esta gente, sin embargo para los amantes del lúpulo la #tortuguero se queda corta, podría arriesgarme a decir que me sabe más a American Pale Ale que a IPA #cervezaartesanal
