For David and Anastasiya's wedding at the #AlbanyClub, Anastasiya's mother Alla bound the couple's hands together with a #rushnyk to honour her Russian and Ukrainian heritage.
In Ukraine, rushnyks accompanied people through their life. Couples intoned their wedding vows while kneeling on a rushnyk. Their newborn would later be cradled in the rushnyk. And, when family members died their coffins would be lowered into the ground with rushnyks. The rushnyk plays a prominent role in Ukranian wedding rituals. The colour of the rushnyk is symbolic: red is the colour of life, fertility, and health. The pattern is also symbolic: the geometric tree of life motif represents the couple's connection to past, present, and future. • #weddingdetails #weddinginspa #handfasting
