The Blue Jays and starting pitcher Marco Estrada are mutually interested in an extension past the 2017 season, Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports. Estrada is set to become a free agent after this season with his current contract.
The player loves Toronto, the agent says publicly he doesn't want to go anywhere," a member within the Blue Jays organization told Murray. "Frankly, we are open to extending him.
Estrada, after being on the trade block prior to the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31st, was rumored to be claimed off of waivers by an AL East team (either the New York Yankees or Baltimore Orioles). The team that claimed Estrada reportedly had no intention on trading for the pitcher, using the claim only to block a trade involving Estrada with another team.
