Former Toronto Blue Jay and free agent outfielder Jose Bautista is willing to play corner infield positions, along with designated hitter, in 2018, his agent Jay Alou told Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The Blue Jays officially declined their part of Bautista's mutual option for the 2018 season less than a week into the offseason, making him a free agent.
He's never said no to a manager," Alou told Morosi. In 2017, Bautista played 143 of his 157 games in right field, with 11 as a designated hitter and eight at third base. Earlier in his career, with the Pirates, Bautista spent a good portion of his time at third base, and has, on numerous occasions, stressed his ability to play the position if the Blue Jays were to need him to fill it.
Although Bautista's defense has given some a reason to worry in the past season, his main downfall as of late has been his offense. In 2017, he batted .203 with an on-base percentage of .308. He was worth -0.9 offensive WAR.
