Happy Adoptaversary!! Babs family surrendered her to a public shelter in May 2013, saying they didn't have "enough time" for her. Shortly after, she was transferred to Purrfect Pals. Like many cats, Babs found shelter life extremely stressful and consequently, didn't show her best side to potential adopters. Even so, she won over a lot of volunteers despite her less than friendly demeanor. Finally, after waiting more than two years Babs was given the second chance she needed and was adopted in July 2015.
When Roxanne first reached up to pet Babs, she tried to bite her, then jumped down and sat contritely next to Roxanne in apology. After waiting 2 years for someone to choose her, Babs decided to take a chance on a new human. Now 12 years old and known as Ginger, we've heard she is a totally different kitty and still doing great. Roxanne says "Thanks for keeping her for all that time before we adopted her." Ginger and Roxanne have a message for anyone who is looking to adopt a cat: Shelters, no matter how good, are unnatural, stressful environments and how a cat presents themselves is not necessarily a true representation of who they are. Sometimes, what those stressed, growly swatters or withdrawn, unfriendly cats need to turn into the sweet, delightful cat hiding inside is just to get out of the shelter and into a loving home. We're thrilled to have been part of giving Ginger the time she needed to find her true home and grateful beyond measure that Roxanne and her family were willing to look beyond the swatty, cranky girl they met and see the potential in her. We're wishing Ginger and Roxanne a happy second anniversary and hoping for many, many more.
