A German soldier returns after the war to find a bombed out home and his family no longer there in Frankfurt, March 1946.
American photographer Tony Vaccaro had taken pictures throughout his time fighting in Germany, remaining in Europe to document post-war life until 1949.
Perhaps as relief from the suffering he had witnessed, Vaccaro turned to portraiture and fashion photography upon his return to the US, with his lens proving every bit as insightful as when under fire.
Born on this day in 1922, Tony Vaccaro turns 95 today.
