Double bassist Drew Gress was born in New Jersey in 1959, he picked-up the double-bass as a teenager.
After musical studies at Towson State University, Gress stayed in the D.C. area and worked with many established artists such as Mose Allison, Buddy Hackett, Marc Copland or Sonny Stitt.
Beyond Drew sensitive touch on the instrument and his talent and imagination in composing and arranging, he gives himself time to reflect on his art and to get inspired with different sources. He has been an artist in residence at the University of Colorado or at the Russian Conservatory of music in St. Petersburg. Since, Drew Gress has been very active touring different venues all over the world and working with contemporary jazz masters.
The cut is "Like it never was" from his 2005 album "7 black butterflies" with Ralph Alessi on trumpet, Tim Berne on sax, Tom Rainey on drums and Craig Taborn on piano.
