If you've ever referred to your Massage Therapist as a "masseuse" or "masseur," you've probably been corrected. We promise we're not being rude! "Massage Therapist" is a title that must be EARNED with hard work and commitment. Massage Therapists undergo rigorous training that includes detailed studies in theory, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, neuromuscular therapy, and sports injuries to name a few. Upon completion, students must complete hundreds of hours of clinical experience before they are eligible for state licensure. In the state of NJ, Massage Therapists are required to regularly enroll in continuing education classes to stay up to date with advancements in the field.
As a flourishing branch of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Massage Therapy has certainly seen its share of adversity in western culture. To enhance the integrity and advancement of our field, please remember to always use "Massage Therapist." Thank you!
