So, I’m not freaking out... yet 😬 This is a stark reminder that hurricane season is upon us! We are pretty prepared, we have 30+ carriers now and 6+ crates. We will evacuate when need be, but for now we are just working to stock up on supplies. If any named storm hits, the Trails Colony’s feeder and TNR/foster person are required to evacuate — which means I would be the closest person to them to care for them. I’m not so much nervous for the cats who hide under the houses as I am the kittens and any newborns. My fear is that mom will try to move them during the storm or they will drown. It’s what happened to our resident cat Bastet when hurricane Matthew hit. She ended up abandoned in the street in the middle of the hurricane. We know of the 3 Siamese kittens and the carport kittens. We will try and trap the Siamese and we will be trying to locate mom and her little 1 week old babies to bring them in before the storm.
I’m going to try and stock up on some cat food for the colony as well, just as a precaution. There are A LOT of cats out there, and only one feeder. Most of our TNRs are pretty skinny, so I’m trying to figure out the best way to supplement them and help feed them... this is hard because of the sheer number of cats. I took the TNR/foster woman a giant bag of dry kitten food for all the momma cats today to help them have healthier babies, have more nutrients, and hopefully raise healthier babies. I’ve also added some $10 bags of dry food to the Amazon Wishlist if you’d like to send the colony a bag of dry food. Don’t forget — PetSmart $10 coupon is good through May 30th! Dan and I will be making several trips to several stores. So far we’ve had $50 donated! 🙌🏻 We will be splitting the donations evenly between wet food, bags of dry food, and litter. $5 can go a long way right now because of this coupon!
