One of the best things about walking Te Araroa was that there was so much freedom compared to 'normal life'. There were no jobs to turn up to, no meetings or outings or appointments or tasks; literally the only thing you had to do was get to the end of the track before your food ran out. Even getting to the hut that day was kinda optional if you had a tent!
Even so I found sometimes people would be so busy hurrying from one hut to the next and doing huuuge days that they didn't seem to actually get to chill out and enjoy where they were, which I thought defeated the whole point of walking for months. I guess if you had a deadline you had to be finished by fair enough, whatever floats your goat, as the saying goes. 😉
Here's a wee reminder to stop for a minute to chill out & actually enjoy being rather than doing.
Learn to appreciate the weird little cool stuff that makes up our lives.
