Speed work with the regular barbell today, 10x2 at 55% (160). Still trying to figure out what to do with my hands.
And incline bench for 4x6 at 235. Little bit of a boring day, but still productive.

Coach had a new movement programmed for today, which was axle squats for a 4RM. They didn’t really turn out to be too much different from regular barbell squats, just obviously a little bit different feel of the bar. Started lightish with 395, then jumped up to 425, which also moved well. Then hit 455, which I’m calling my 4RM as you can see from the video.
After that was snatch grip deadlifts, which were supposed to be 3x8 at 60% (370), but I miscounted on the last set and only did 7. So then I did 3 more reps strapless and beltless for good measure.
Soundtrack was The Return of the King, which is as epic as you think it is. Solid training day all around.

Had a weird headache and kind of felt like ass this morning but still got the work in. @chslater2 must have been feeling like more of a dick than usual when he wrote this week’s programming because the log was supposed to be 10-min EMOM doubles at 230, which is 2 minutes longer and 25 lbs heavier than last time I did EMOM log doubles. After the first two minutes it was clear that doubles weren’t going to last, so coach said make them singles, which still sucked.
Then some runs of the nationals medley with the top two runs being 300/315/heavyish and 300/360/345. Still felt like ass, but my runs ended up being a few seconds faster than last time I did this, so progress is progress. Feelings lie but the clock doesn’t.

Pressing work for today was 2x8 at 75% (215) on the axle. Generally did a better job of getting in a good rhythm than last time I did this, except for a couple reps, and it went pretty smoothly.
Then 4x5 close grip bench at 80% (280), which also went pretty well. Yep, that’s about it for today.

Bicep healing, bad shoulder, cut hand? The only thing I’m going to stop doing is making excuses. Training has really started to feel right again this week and the arm is holding up with a little more weight on the bar. Tonight started and ended with a Barbell movement. Front squats for speed work were on the menu today. 5x4 at 55% (225) with 30-sec rest periods. Was feeling pretty good today, good and loose in the hips and more easily mobile than my typical Tin Man-esque self. Front squats felt nice and smooth and bar speed was good.
Then heavy frame deadlifts for 3x2 at 90% (630) also went very well. Doing all my frame deadlift work strapless because this is my life now until late October.
Soundtrack was The Fellowship of the Ring. I’ve been on an epic music kick lately and I’m liking it.

This weekend was the first time getting under the Yoke with any weight on it in the 4 months since surgery. Obviously kept it very light and just worked on moving. I tried to speed the last run up a little and although it shaved off a few seconds it threw me off some and my transition was shit. Still I’m very happy to be able to start training some strongman events again. ⚔️🛡⚔️🛡⚔️🛡⚔️🛡⚔️🛡⚔️🛡⚔️🛡⚔️

30-second AMRAP sets of circus dumbbell clean and press with 130 this morning. As per usual, I was better right handed than left handed, and better on the later sets than the earlier sets. Best number was 5 reps on the second right-handed set.
Then worked up to runs of 605 and 645 on the frame, which was pretty smooth with no grip issues. Need to be at 735 by the end of October. And finally some sandbag loads with 275 to finish off the morning.

Solid training day overall today. Log work was 4x2 at 85% (250), which is the same weight I used last time I did the same sets and reps, but it was waaaaaaaaay easier this time. Moved really well and I felt like I could have done triples or maybe even 4s. Also the log bounced up at me and gave my pinky and owie on set 2. 😢
After that, bench work was 3x2 at 90% (315) to a 3” deadlift block because that’s the closest thing I had to a 2-board. Close enough I think. Pretty happy with today’s work overall.

Wanted to listen to something epic while training today so I put on the Gladiator soundtrack. Squats were 2x10 at 70% (350) and deadlifts were speed work with 12x1 at 55% (340) plus bands.
Did some times barbell suitcase holds after that to work the ol’ grip. Boy lemme tell ya, you don’t need very much weight on the bar to make those suck.
